The Academic Council of Delhi University (DU) on Tuesday approved the offer of postgraduate admissions through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from the next academic cycle. The existing Post Graduate (PG) entrance examination will not be held in the coming session.

According to news agency PTI, a ten-member committee was formed to propose a strategy for PG admissions from 2023-24, suggesting changes in the pattern.

As per the existing system, 50% admissions are made directly to students who have passed their graduation degree from the university on the basis of merit in their qualifying examination, while the remaining 50% seats are filled based on the rank of DU post graduate candidates. Entrance examination.

“The AC has approved recommending PG admission through CUET and half the seats are left under merit-based admission for DU students,” a council member told PTI.

The committee suggested that PG admissions will be done through a single window system where NTA will conduct the CUET from the academic year 2023-24 for all categories.

It also said that a separate merit list will be prepared for the candidates who have cleared Chuet-PG and those from other departments who had earlier appeared for the postgraduate entrance examination.

While preparing the merit list candidates appearing in the DU entrance examination will be given priority in the category.

“While preparing the merit list, the priority shall be defined as follows: Candidates of the former category who sought admission through the Post Graduate Entrance Examination shall comprise the first 50 per cent of the seats and shall include those candidates who qualify the Common University Entrance. His eligibility to appear in the examination under this category shall be depending on the test,” the committee recommended.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) had also introduced Chuet for postgraduate courses earlier this year.

A total of 66 universities including central, state and private universities opted for Chuet PG exam for admission. Delhi University was among the universities that opted out of this entrance test and admissions to PG courses will continue as per the existing process.
