There are several medical and non-medical causes for shortness of breath. One may experience shortness of breath while at altitude, or when the air quality is at a dangerous level, or when the temperature is too high or after heavy exercise.
There are a number of medical conditions that can cause a person to have difficulty breathing. Problems such as allergies, asthma, heart problems, lung diseases, pneumonia, obesity, tuberculosis are also causes of shortness of breath.
Recently, covid has also been reported to affect patients’ ability to breathe. Many people with common covid symptoms such as sore throat and runny nose have also experienced shortness of breath during the infection.
