For the uninitiated, the e-commerce website recently sent a message to people where it focused primarily on kitchen appliance deals.
“Dear customer, on this Women’s Day, let us celebrate you. Get kitchen utensils from 299 rupees. [sic]”Read the message.
However, the specific message did not go down well with a section of people. Many have denounced the company as “sexist”.
According to NetizenThe message reinforces the negative stereotypes about women in the kitchen
“Hey @Flipkart Do you think the kitchen should be for women only? #PityOnFlipkart #Flipkart,” tweeted a social media user.
“Bravo, that Flipkart! Bravo for this kind of stereotypical and sexist offer. Hundreds of women are fighting the stereotype and you’re here, giving discounts on kitchen utensils. Are women meant just for the kitchen?” Another user wrote on Twitter.
After the call, Flipkart apologized for hurting people’s feelings.
Flipkart tweeted its apology, saying, “We’ve messed up and we’re sorry. We didn’t intend to hurt anyone’s feelings and apologize for the previously shared Women’s Day message.”
