Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday stayed an interim order in the petition against the minimum age limit of six years for admission in Class I at Kendriya Vidyalaya in the coming academic year.

The court gave the central government and KVS 10 days to file their counter-affidavits and on April 5 listed the matter for further consideration.

Justice Rekha Palli observed that the petitions were “something at first glance” and that the authorities could not change them “at the last minute”.

The court said it would not interfere in the National Education Policy (NEP) but would “trim” the way it would be followed.

Central government prosecutor Apurba Kurup said it would be better for the court to rule on the matter earlier instead of issuing an interim order.

Lawyer Ashok Agarwal, appearing for one of the petitioners, said that the minimum age for admission in 1st class in some central government schools is five years compulsory, not six years.

Earlier, the court had said that there could not be two sets of schools in the city for the same education – a minimum age of six years is mandatory for one to apply for Class 1 and five years for others – for the same education.
