There are 16 active distilleries and 6 recorded closed distilleries in Japan. Although the distilleries are only a handful, each produces multiple whiskeys of different styles. From different fermentation periods and yeast strains to different sizes and styles of pot steel, production houses produce enough variants to blend multiple brands. Bottles of carousel and honey whiskey are the most expensive Japanese whiskey in closed distilleries.
