The naming is a bit confusing, especially for players who have not followed the annual Call of Duty launches. This year’s Modern Warfare 2 is not related to 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Instead, the soon-to-be-launched Modern Warfare 2 (2022) is a direct sequel to the 2019 Call of Duty Modern Warfare that was a re-launch. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007).
Activation has announced the launch date at the end of a new teaser video. In addition to the launch date, the trailer indicates that Simon “Ghost” Riley, Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, and John “Soap” McTavish will be featured in Call of Duty characters and much more in the game. The first-person shooter will also introduce Colonel Alejandro Vargas of the Mexican Special Forces as one of the main characters.
As for the storyline, the developers have not released any details but if we believe a report from VGC, the main story will revolve around the US special forces behind the Colombian cartel runners. Another report, this time from Eurogamer, claims that the game will come with a new ‘DMZ’ mode that draws inspiration from the extraction-style elements seen in Tarkov’s Escape.
