The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) counseling process for post graduation medical courses may start from September 19 instead of September 1, as announced earlier. News agency PTI quoted people aware of the matter as saying that NEET-PG counseling is likely to begin from September 19.
The news agency also reported that the Union Health Ministry postponed the NEET-PG counseling on Monday to allow the National Medical Commission (NMC) to complete the process of adding new seats.
The ministry is likely to upload the counseling schedule in a few days, sources said.
“…NEET-PG counselling, 2022 was supposed to start from September 1. However, the National Medical Commission (NMC) is in the process of issuing fresh letters of permission (LoPs) for the current academic year and the same will be over till September 15.
“Hence, to include more seats in the counseling for the benefit of the candidates, the competent authority has decided to reschedule the NEET-PG counselling, 2022 which was scheduled to commence from September 1,” the ministry. said in a notice.
Generally, the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (Post Graduation), or NEET-PG is held in January and counseling begins in March. But due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the delay in last year’s admission process, this year’s exam was held on May 21 and the results were declared on June 1, a senior official said.
This year PG counseling can be held for around 60,000 seats. Students who qualify the exam will be able to fulfill their preferences in terms of courses and colleges during the counseling process for admission to All India Quota Seats, State Medical and Dental Colleges, Central and Deemed Universities.
Counseling for all central universities, deemed universities and 50 per cent of the all-India quota and 50 per cent of the state quota for both medical and dental colleges will begin simultaneously, officials said.
