What is a 5G CPE device?
As we mentioned, these devices are like mini hubs that convert 5G signals over Wi-Fi or LAN network connections. What it does is allow users to connect multiple devices to a home or office set up on 5G service, wherever it is available. Even if there are some areas where broadband connection is not available, devices can connect to a 5G CPE device with a 5G SIM card installed and quickly connect to 5G internet.
How do the devices work?
Oppo has partnered with Qualcomm on 5G CPE devices. The device has Qualcomm Snapdragon T. X62 5G modem-RF system. Oppo claims that by further optimizing it, the device can increase data transfer speeds by up to 20% compared to platform baseline. There is an antenna – to which Oppo has added O-Reserve 2.0 smart antenna technology – which monitors the signals received by 8 antennas in real time and selects 4 of these antennas based on gain strength and signal quality to create a downlink route.
What do 5G CPE devices look like?
Oppo has opted for a minimalist design aesthetic and the device looks like a slightly larger version of the previous generation of Amazon Echo speakers. It has a white cylindrical body and a textured surface which makes it more dust-proof and stain-resistant. The new Oppo T2 5G CPE is made entirely from PCR (post-consumer recycled plastic) consumer products, which are claimed to reduce carbon emissions.
When and where will 5G CPE devices be available?
Oppo has partnered with many of the world’s leading operators, helping to expand the use of 5G globally and allowing users to benefit from a wider base of advanced 5G services. The Oppo CPE T2 will be available in the second half of this year. Oppo has reached agreements with operators across the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Europe to empower more people with the connecting power of 5G CPE.
