Samsung In 2021, ISOCELL launched the first 200MP camera sensor for smartphones called HP1. Now, the company has updated its blog post to announce its second 200MP camera sensor named ISOCELL HP3. However, the company is promoting the new model as less so since the latest sensor is smaller. To better understand, the ISOCELL HP1 is a 1 / 1.22-inch sensor that offers 0.64-micrometer pixels, while the ISOCELL HP3 sensor delivers 1 / 1.4-inch and 0.56-micrometer pixels.
The company claims that a 12% reduction in pixel size will allow more manufacturers to place it on their devices because the latest module takes up 20% less area. In addition, the new sensor can capture 14-bit images and support up to 4 trillion colors, Samsung claims. The company further announced that samples of ISOCELL HP3 are currently available for testing and will enter mass production by the end of 2022.
Samsung 200MP ISOCELL HP3 Features and Other Details
According to Samsung, the latest 200MP ISOCELL HP3 lens has a mechanism called Super QPD autofocus that allows the sensor to autofocus all the pixels. This process uses a single lens on four adjacent pixels to detect phase differences in both horizontal and vertical directions, which the company claims to offer faster and more precise autofocus.
According to Samsung, the ISOCELL HP3 can record 4K 120fps video and 8K 30fps video. In addition, the new 200MP sensor reduces visual field loss when capturing 8K video, which Samsung claims is incapable of a 108MP camera sensor.
The new sensor also offers pixel binning, which allows it to capture 1.12-micrometer pixels with a size of 2.24μm pixels and 50MP images with 12.5MP images (4×4 binings). The ISOCELL HP3 sensor is also smart ISO Pro Features that create images using three conversion gains (high-ISO, mid-ISO and low-ISO) for good dynamic range.
