Road Accidents: First Aid Consultation
The primary goal of first aid is to provide immediate assistance to the injured person to save his or her life, to prevent further injury and to reduce the risk of survival in the event of an accident or injury.
Call for ambulance service
The first and foremost thing to do after arriving at the scene is to call for an ambulance. Even if first aid is given, the person needs specialist medical help.
Make the person comfortable
Take the person to a comfortable place away from the accident site. Do not give the person plenty of water immediately. Start it with a few sips.
Keep the person aware
Check the person’s pulse and keep him alert until medical help arrives. Talk to the person, assure them that everything will be fine because medical help is coming.
Check if breathing is OK
Check if the person is having trouble breathing. In road accidents, pieces of glass or other parts of the car can cause airway obstruction. Examine the person’s face or throat for any such obstruction and try to remove it gently.
Stop the bleeding, if any
If bleeding occurs, try to stop it with a clean cloth. Try to control the bleeding until medical help arrives.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR
If the person is not breathing or the pulse is working, try giving CPR. It is an effective first aid treatment given during heart failure. It combines rescue breathing and chest compressions to keep blood flowing until breathing is restored.
