Tick tock Announced that it is expanding the maximum length of video on the platform to 10 minutes. Analysts see the move as an attempt by the Chinese giant GoogleIts video platform YouTube. This is the biggest increase in the length of videos TikTok has announced so far. Last July, the company increased the maximum length of video to 3 minutes. According to social media consultant and analyst Matt Navarre, some users were notified of the update as a notification within the app. He added that TikTok has been testing the 3 and 5 minute upload limits with manufacturers for some time.
It is worth noting that with the length of new uploads, TikTok will not only compete Instagram Reels, But it will be a competitor to YouTube. For those who don’t know, long videos are easy to monetize and it keeps people on the platform for a long time. Matt Navarra suggests that TikTok could do with a dedicated home for long form content within the app, as it doesn’t sit well on short feeds so people are accustomed to scrolling fast.
When it was launched in 2016, TikTok only allowed users to upload videos up to 15-seconds long. The length limit was later increased to 60 seconds to attract more manufacturers to its platform.
As announced by TikTok earlier this month, it is also working on ways to rate and restrict content by age on the platform. By doing so, the company seeks to prevent adult content from reaching teenage users. The platform has revealed that it is testing various ways to restrict adult-rated content from reaching young user accounts.
Social media platforms are under scrutiny for their policies regarding the well-being and safety of young users. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and others have also introduced several new features to keep young users safe on their platforms.
