Zuckerberg, who started Facebook, shared some tips for college students from his dormitory at Harvard and also gave an insight into what he was looking for in a person when he hired them. A CNBC report details an interview with Zuckerberg in a podcast.
In a podcast hosted by MIT computer scientist Lex Friedman, Zuckerberg said that when someone is in college, they can make the most important decisions about who they spend time with. “You become the people you surround yourself with,” he explained. “I think maybe people are very general, purpose-centered, and maybe they don’t pay enough attention to the connections and the people they’re basically building relationships with,” Zuckerberg said in an interview.
Zuckerberg added that he tries to prioritize relationships over motives. When he evaluates a job candidate he imagines what it would be like to work for that person without actually being their boss. “I would only hire someone to work for me if I see myself working for them,” he said.
Meta CEO further explained why he wants to do this. According to Zuckerberg, this strategy helps to create a more productive environment. Finding personal harmony is important, Zuckerberg says, because if you work with people who share your values on a human level, goals can be better achieved together.
